Synopsis:
Starting in Janurary of 1922, the 'investigators' are attached to a low-readership tabloid called Apocrypha, known for publishing just about anything (especially if someone else won't) - from Men from the Moon and Sightings of Bigfoot, to unbeliveable lies like Smoking is bad for you!
At least one of the investigators is actually a journalist, with the remainder being either people on retainer, or support.
Your mission is to investigate and document the unknown, and you know, if you can save the world from ineffible doom from time to time, that's good (since the world is where you keep all your stuff.)
...
The game will be very episodic, with little to no over-arching meta plot. I'm looking to have this be very similar to: Season 1 x-files, Friday the 13th the TV show, The chronicle, and Hellboy.
While I will attempt to actually incorporate mythos into the game, for a bit the game might be devoid of some cannon mythos as I get used to the game, the world, and the background. (Just a warning to the hardcore CoC folks.)
While I don't see an over-arching meta plot, there may be themes, details, or whatevers that do sometimes group stories together - The guy you roughed up in story 1, may come back as a reoccuring character in subsiquent stories.
The episodic nature of the game will allow people to come in as 'guest investigators' if people wanted to show up on occasion, though it would have to work with their character.
Finally, the meaning behind the name Publish or Perish, is that only by publishing (and thus, only at the end of each story, assuming you publish it) will you get to roll your skill checks (to see if they increase) and will you get some SAN back.
